Her Parents - Martha Haugsjerd Anderson & John E. Anderson Izzie's parents were cousins from adjoining farms in Norway. They married in Deerfield, Wisconsin during the Civil War while John was home on furlough from serving in the Union Army. John served all four years of the war and contracted tuberculosis while in the army. He died just short of his 38th birthday, a few months before Izzie was born. Martha kept her family together and supported herself by running a boarding house in Fergus Falls, Minnesota until Izzie, her youngest, was 20 years old. The two of them then moved to Stoughton, Wisconsin, to be nearer Martha's relatives. |
